Procedure
Uncrate the Dimension Icon SPM System
- Cut and remove the shipping bands encircling the Dimension Icon shipping crate.
- Undo the clamps connecting the crate cover to the crate bottom.
- Remove the crate cover. This is a two person job:
- Remove the eight screws, marked in red, and drop the front panel of the crate.
- Remove the two bolts and washers holding the crossbar that secures the Dimension Icon microscope to the crate base.
- Remove the wood crossbar.
- Remove the wood side pieces from the crate:
- Remove the envelope labeled tools.
- Cut the zip tie closing the plastic drop cloth and unwrap the Dimension Icon microscope.
- Unpack all system components. Each of the items below are shipped in separate boxes:
- Dimension Icon Microscope. Do not remove this from the shipping crate.
- NanoScope V-PI Controller if you have a Dimension Icon-PI.
- NanoScope V Controller if you have aDimension Icon-PT.
- Dimension Stage Controller if you have a Dimension Icon-PI/PT.
- Dimension Electronics Box (“E-Box”)
- Dimension Icon scanner head
- Microscope Accessories (Dimension accessories box)
- Chuck Base Hardware (packed with Dimension Icon microscope)
- X-Y stage cover
- Save and store the shipping box for the microscope scanners (Dimension Icon and Dimension FastScan).
NOTE: If repair or calibration is necessary, the shipping box is crucial for safe return of the scanner to the factory. It is also convenient to use for long-term storage.
CAUTION: Do not remove the plastic wrap from the microscope stage. Do not remove the microscope scanner from its shipping box yet. The SPM microscope scanner must remain in the box until ready for use.
Uncrate the Workstation
NOTE: The workstation configuration is not available with the Dimension Icon-PI or Dimension Icon-PT.
Unpack all system components. Each of the items below are shipped in separate boxes:
- LCD Monitor
- Computer and Keyboard
Because the Dimension Icon workstation table top is fairly deep (47.3”, 1202 mm), it may need to be removed for the workstation to clear most doors. Remove the workstation top, including the two “L” brackets attached to its bottom, by unscrewing the three allen head button screws on each side of the workstation:
The CorianTM workstation top is also rather heavy (~100 lbs/45 kg) and requires three people to lift it. Use a four wheeled dolly to transport the top.
Uncrate Non-Workstation Components
Unpack all system components. Each of the items below are shipped in separate boxes:
- LCD Monitor(s)
- Computer and Keyboard
- Dimension Stage Controller
- NanoScope V Controller
